How to grow a potato variety Queen Anna

The most important thing a gardener must do is to plant the potatoes correctly so that they can get a good harvest later. It is customary to plant tubers in the ground in most of the country in early May. By this time, the soil will warm up well and dry out.

Attention! One of the secrets of growing this variety of potatoes is planting in warm and slightly damp ground. If the soil is too wet, the tubers will not be able to "breathe" and the germination of the potatoes will stop.

In different regions of the country, suitable conditions for planting potatoes are created at different times. On average, we can say that the best time for planting potato tubers is the third decade of April - the first half of May.

Planting potatoes

Potatoes Queen Anna prefers places well lit by the sun. There should be no stagnant water on the site, it is better if this place is protected from strong winds. The soil is preferable loose, good air permeability, sufficiently nutritious.

If the soil composition does not meet these requirements, it can be improved. To do this, fertilizers, wood ash, peat, coarse river sand or lime are added to the ground.

Advice! Potato beds are best positioned in a north-south direction. This will allow the bushes to be evenly illuminated by the rays of the sun and warm up.

Before planting, the tubers are sorted out: potatoes of medium size, regular shape, without damage and rot are most suitable as planting material. Then potatoes need to be warmed up, for this, the seeds are brought into the house or into another heated room. When the tubers germinate, they are slightly greened. - kept in direct sunlight.

Immediately before planting, Anna potatoes can be treated with a growth stimulator - this will further increase the yield.

A step-by-step description of the potato planting process looks like this:

  1. Since autumn, a plot for potatoes is dug up or plowed up. Before that, you need to scatter rotted manure or compost on the ground. In the spring, the soil is additionally fertilized with nitrogen fertilization.
  2. Now you need to dig holes or make planting furrows. At the same time, it is important to leave at least 40 cm between the seats, because the Queen Anna variety is large-fruited and multi-fruited - there should be enough room for potatoes.
  3. No more than one potato is placed in each hole, otherwise there will be too many tubers - they will not have enough space for normal development, which will entail shrinking potatoes.
  4. Immediately after planting, until the soil is dry and windy, the holes are buried.
  5. From above it is recommended to mulch potato plantings with peat. The thickness of the peat layer should be 2-3 cm.
Attention! It is not recommended to plant this particular variety with cut tubers. Potatoes for planting must be whole.

How to care for German potato plantations

Only competent and regular care can ensure a decent potato crop. The potato variety Koroleva Anna is unpretentious, but the minimum planting care is still necessary.

So, all maintenance of potato beds is as follows:

  • during the period of tying the tubers, potatoes are necessary water regularly and abundantly... The phase of active formation of potatoes begins simultaneously with the flowering period of the bushes. It is at this time that potato plantings are watered at least once a week. It is best to use spray irrigation to avoid washing out the roots and tubers.
  • If there are potatoes on the bushes cut off all flowers in time, this will significantly increase the size and quality of tubers - potatoes will develop better and faster.
  • The roots of the German potato variety Anna are close to the surface of the earth, therefore bushes must be spud... Earthen mounds will prevent dry roots and sunburn. You need to sprinkle the potatoes carefully.
  • Oxygen is very important for the development of the Queen Anna variety, so you need to regularly weed the beds, loosen the soil and remove weeds... This will help air and water to penetrate under the bush unhindered.
  • Three times a season, the Queen Anna variety needs fertilize... Fertilizers are applied during the period of growing green mass, during the formation of flower buds and at the stage of active flowering. If you use mineral complexes or organic fertilizers correctly, you can significantly increase the yield of potatoes and the size of tubers.
  • Bushes should be inspected regularly to detect disease or pest infestation at an early stage. In such cases, emergency measures are taken: spraying potatoes and collecting insects.
Attention! Leaving will affect not only the number of tubers, but also their quality. Well-watered and well-fertilized potatoes will grow beautiful, large and very tasty.

Despite early ripening time, potatoes of the Koroleva Anna variety are perfectly stored. Only for this it is necessary to provide suitable conditions: constant low temperature and humidity at the level of 60-70%.

Testimonials

Alexander, 58 years old, Tomsk
At my summer cottage, I planted many different varieties of potatoes. In the first two years, as a rule, the harvest is always good, then the tubers become smaller, and there are much fewer of them. This year he planted several new varieties at once, among them was the German Queen Anna. I can say that this potato is unpretentious, resistant to disease.Almost all the bushes by the end of summer "mowed" late blight, but Anna remained green, as it was before. Probably due to the fact that the bushes stood green for a long time, the tubers gained a large amount of starch. As a result, the dug out potatoes boil well and are perfect for making mashed potatoes or cooking in uniforms. The tubers taste good, moderately sweet, the pulp is dry, without excess water. Next year I will plant with my own seeds. I hope that Anna will not be reborn soon, because we liked the variety. I show the harvest in the photo.

Conclusion

German-bred potatoes created specifically for growing in the middle lane. Queen Anne can grow in almost any soil, but black soil, loam and sandy loam, which are good for air and moisture, are most suitable for her. There is practically no need to take care of the bushes.

All that is required from a gardener is timely watering during the flowering period, removal of inflorescences, and pest control. In response, Anna will reward the owner with a bountiful harvest of large and very tasty tubers.

  2. We bought Anna Koroleva seeds in the middle of February. Prepared them for landing. They planted her on February 29th. When we got acquainted with the characteristics of this variety, we learned that it is intended for central Russia and the variety is mid-season. We ourselves are located in the south of Russia. I want to get an answer from you to the question: what kind of harvest do we expect with such a sowing period with proper care for it?

    1. Good day!
Judging by the description and characteristics of the variety presented by the originators, Queen Anna potatoes have a rather short growing season - only 80-90 days. This means that you will be able to harvest the first harvest of young potatoes in early to mid-June. Despite the fact that the variety has excellent keeping properties, we do not advise you to keep potatoes dug out so early.
However, it is possible to grow a second crop of potatoes, which will already be well stored. The second harvest of potatoes in the southern regions is harvested in September-October. More exact dates depend on the timing of planting and ripening of the variety.
You can plant both last year's seed potatoes and freshly dug ones. In this case, it is important to properly prepare the seed and the plot for planting. It is also worth paying special attention to the timing and rules of watering.
